Peter is an expert in the process industries with more than 20 years experience working with major chemical companies such as ICI and Huntsman Corporation.

Operating in senior roles in many sectors – starting in base chemicals with petrochemicals and olefins production, then moving to specialties with polyurethanes and epoxy formulations – he has a rare overview of the whole chemical sector gained from real experience of operating at the very extremes of asset-focused and market-focused businesses.

The restructuring of Vantico – a role with direct responsibility for +$1bn of spend and +2,400 employees – delivered more than $75 million of recurring fixed costs savings and EBITDA improvement from $45MM to $185MM in 18 months and peak of $215 million 3 years later.

Peter assists the financial community as an Industrial Partner, covering the whole M&A process from initiation to exit – project identification, due diligence, interim management, and exit strategy.

Both Polygon, ($8.5bn hedge fund) and then Philip Falcone and Harbinger Group (HRG $20bn AUM) have retained Peter as an industrial partner for two years or more.

Career History:

  • Peter is a chemical engineer with a strong commercial flair;

  • Beginning with ICI, Peter had various roles including Production Manager for the largest olefin unit in Europe through to major capital projects responsible for technology the process design and technology licensing for the $850MM JV project to build the first World scale MDI chain in China;

  • Moving to a commercial role, Peter led the acquisition of the Vantico business (now Huntsman Advanced Materials) on behalf of PE Fund Matlin-Patterson and then took on operational responsibility for restructuring as VP Global Operations;

  • After 20 years leading portfolio change and operational restructuring for blue chip companies, Peter established Per Astra Ltd in 2007 to offer industrial advice to the financial community;

  • The group has a primary focus on the process industries with a particular skill in specialty chemicals & materials;

  • Peter has a Masters Degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Leeds;

  • Graduate of the Oxford University Business Economics Programme;

  • INSEAD Advanced Industrial Marketing Strategy
